Ivy Bend Fire and Rescue
Interim Fire Chief Kathie Licata was elected to continue as fire chief at Ivy Bend Fire and Rescue’s Wednesday, Oct. 4 board meeting.
There were no other nominations. Licata has served as the volunteer department’s interim chief since previous fire chief Rachel Laschanzky resigned effective Monday, March 6.
Also elected without opposition was board secretary-treaurer Paula Conklin.
Licata reported the department’s personnel were dispatched to 20 medical calls and one fire during the past month.
The board also learned the district was turned down for a fire prevention and safety grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The department will apply again next year for this and other grants.
The department received a donation of radios from the Department of Conservation. The radios are being inspected and programmed by L & B Electronics of Eldon.
Tanker 900 was reported as completely outfitted for structure fire response, pending a tire replacement, additional hose, and two butterfly valves that were to be installed later in the week.
Board members were reminded about their responsibilities regarding the department’s fish fry, scheduled 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at Fire Station 1. Funds raised will be used to equip the department’s trucks for service. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $5 from any fire fighter or $6 at the door. The menu is fried fish, fried potatoes, hush puppies, coleslaw, baked beans, dessert, and drink.
The next Ivy Bend fire board meeting is scheduled 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Station 1, at the corner of Ivy Bend and Saw Mill roads.
