The 2017 season came to an end for the Stover softball team as they lost to Jamestown, 16-0, in the first round of the MSHSAA Class 1 District 5 tournament Thursday, Oct. 5 at Calvary Lutheran in Jefferson City.
The Lady Bulldogs finish their first season of softball played since 2013 with a record of 1-12.
There were three seniors on this year’s team, Darby Cannon, Austina Soppe, and Megan Thomas.
Coach Britney Wilson said the players improved as the season progressed, “Although the record doesn’t show it, the girls drastically improved throughout the season. By the end of the season, they were pitching significantly more accurately. The next step for pitching is focusing on the combo of speed and accuracy. The girls also started hitting the ball much better toward the end of the season.”
Wilson is hoping to keep most of the players together for a summer league team next year, “We’ll work hard in the off-season to be ready for next year. I am hoping to get the girls involved in a summer league together. I think it would be beneficial. I very much look forward to what the next softball season brings around.”
