Rodger Neil Eckhoff, 65, of Cole Camp, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017 at his home.
He was born April 8, 1952, near Cole Camp, a son of Lawrence Dietrich and Elda Anna Louise (Brandt) Eckhoff.
He attended school at Balke Prairie and graduated in 1970 from Cole Camp High School.
He married Deborah Smith Nov. 21, 1970, in Cole Camp.
He enjoyed working on the farm, storytelling, pheasant and deer hunting, trap shooting, antique cars, John Deere tractors, cattle, and going to tractor pulls.
He was active in the Poultry Federation, National Rifleman’s Association, the church council at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and at Brauersville Lutheran Church, and the Cole Camp Fair Board.
He received honors including “Work Horse of the Year” and the Lifetime Achievement Award from Cargill Incorporated. He worked at Cargill his entire professional career.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Krista Poe and husband Ron, Heather Oelrichs and husband Ryan, and Leslie Hesse and husband Andrew, all of Cole Camp; sisters Rose Scott of Cole Camp, Ella Knierim of Stover, and Elda Bryson of Sedalia; brothers Kenneth Eckhoff and wife Linda of Cole Camp and Nelson Eckhoff of Sedalia; sisters-in-law Armilda Eckhoff and Geri Eckhoff; brother-in-law Bill Dey; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Alma Dey; bothers Marvin Eckhoff, Eldon Eckhoff, Virgil Eckhoff, Ralph Eckhoff, and Leroy Eckhoff; and sisters-in-law Mary Eckhoff and Margaret Eckhoff.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 30, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cole Camp, with Pastor Stephen Zeller officiating.
Burial was in Brauersville Lutheran Cemetery near Cole Camp. Pallbearers were Bryan Schlesselman, Edward Oelrichs, Dan Britton, Rodney Metscher, Jason Witt, Larry Hughes, George Rex, and Donald Eckhoff.
Memorial contributions were suggested to St. Paul’s Fellowship Building Fund, Cole Camp FFA, or Stover FFA in care of the Fox Funeral Home in Cole Camp.
