PTO: Working together for the Students
On Thursday, July 26, the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) met in the school library. The PTO officers include Tiffany Nash and Valerie Koon serving as co-presidents, Nathel Shadwick serving as treasurer, and Charlie Lee as the volunteer coordinator. Addie Welpman will be in charge of the box top collection.

One of the goals for PTO this year is to provide events for the whole family. For the past several years, they have hosted Muffins with Mom and Donuts with Dad. Both of these events are held in the morning where students in preschool through sixth grade may come with either their mom or dad or a special guest. These events are well attended and are scheduled again for the 2018-2019 school year.

Other ideas discussed were an ice cream social, breakfast with Santa, and a movie night. These will be discussed in more detail at their next meeting.

The PTO will continue to sell trash bags this fall and will have the Penguin Patch Dec. 3-7 as fundraisers. Several other fundraising ideas were brought up and will be investigated further. Money from these fundraisers will be used to help pay for field trips, family events, water bottle-filling stations, and possibly a rock wall installed in the elementary gym to be used during indoor recess.

The PTO will also sponsor the BooHoo breakfast on the first day of school, Wednesday, Aug. 22, for kindergarten students and their families. This breakfast will take place in the school library from 7 to 8 a.m.

The PTO is an essential part of our school and they need your help. The PTO can only be as strong as its members and they have many great ideas that would benefit our students.

The next meeting is scheduled 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11. Information will be sent home and will be posted on the school’s Facebook page.
